Where is Our Museum?

Come join us at Surrey City Hall for an exciting event where we explore the question: Where is our museum?

What is this event?

This gathering is a beacon of hope and action — ensuring that the process of creating the "South Asian Canadian Museum", as promised in the Provincial Government's mandate, is rooted in the genuine desires, perspectives, and needs of the community it aims to represent. Much more than location, this evening will explore conversations about the state of our community's needs and wants for our past, present and future. We aim to harness the collective wisdom, passion, and vision of participants, to create a shared understanding of how our spaces and institutions are built.

Why are you doing this?

We've been waiting on the Province to do something, anything, meaningful. After 2 years of squandered time and resources, we were compelled to act independently.

The central goal is to create an open, collaborative space where diverse voices within the Sikh, Punjabi and wider South Asian community can come together to share ideas, aspirations, and concerns, ultimately contributing to the conceptualization and realization of a museum that truly reflects our identities and heritage.

Who is doing this?

Hopefully, you are. This is a leaderless movement, a growing collective, inspired by the need to protect our heritage and articulate an inspiring future for our wider community.

Only WE can be the experts of ourselves. That's why we're inviting everyone, young and old, to come, share, learn and hopefully go home with some meaningful new relationships.

How do we take part?

First step is to register! Let us know you're coming, so we can have ample materials and food onsite for everyone participating. Then, bring your stories and your imagination on April 2nd.
