The Premier- 2018
In its inaugural year in 2018, Sikh Heritage Month BC made history with five impactful events organized by SFU SSA and UBC SSA. The festivities kicked off with the first-ever Sikh art exhibition in the province, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of the Sikh community. A dedicated workshop day for children allowed them to engage in hands-on activities, from crafting malas and the art of calligraphy to learning how to tie dastars.
Gurdwara tours extended a warm invitation to the non-Sikh community, fostering understanding and appreciation of Sikh traditions. The "Sikh Voices in Canada" speaker panel provided a platform for insightful discussions, sharing diverse perspectives on the Sikh experience in the country. Culminating in a grand Gala Dinner, the inaugural Sikh Heritage Month in BC not only celebrated the community's vibrant culture but also laid the groundwork for years of meaningful commemorations to come.
