Sikh Heritage Society BC is proud to receive the 2024 Surrey Civic Distinction Award for Heritage Education and Awareness
(November 15, 2024 - Vancouver, B.C.) - Sikh Heritage Society BC is proud to receive the 2024 Surrey Civic Distinction Award for Heritage Education and Awareness. This honour, presented only once every four years, recognizes SHBC’s exceptional efforts in preserving and promoting Sikh heritage and culture within the community.
The Surrey Civic Distinction Awards celebrate outstanding contributions in various fields, including environment, arts and heritage, sport tourism and more. Founded in 2018, SHBC has consistently demonstrated a commitment to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the widespread contributions of Sikh Canadians to the social, economic and cultural fabric of British Columbia, whether it be through public events, art exhibitions, or educational resources.
“We are deeply humbled to receive this recognition,” said Mohnaam Kaur Shergill, Director of Media and Communications at SHBC. “Our mission has always been to create awareness and preserve the rich heritage of the Sikh community, and this award inspires us to continue our efforts.”
A non-profit organization led by a group of young volunteers, SHBC continues to make strides as a leader in the community.

The Sikh Heritage Society BC (SHBC) is a passionate, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating Sikh culture, heritage, and history in British Columbia. Since its inception in 2018, the society has been at the forefront of Sikh Heritage Month BC, organizing impactful events and educational initiatives that highlight the contributions of Sikh-Canadians to developing a greater understanding and appreciation of the community’s rich, unique and diverse heritage.
